Why should voters elect you?
Why vote for me, I care about the people. As an officer you learn nothing is important if you do not protect the people — their health, safety and welfare, and to me this is the mission of our government. I have 28 years of experience in the U.S. Army serving in various command and staff assignments to include multi-national headquarters in NATO. This required the ability to work in a leadership style that produced cooperation and integration of various national units and non-governmental agencies to support the civilian population — with healthcare and food in a safe environment. It is this leadership style I will bring to the Assembly to push forward the state’s citizens' need for affordable healthcare, education, and environmental stewardship.
What is the top issue in your district? How would you address it?
My top issue is the affordability of health care to include health insurance premiums and deductible requirements, which then often leads to independent contractors, farmers, small business owners, and employees of smaller businesses with high-cost plans being offered to either forgo purchasing insurance, not being able to offer it to employees, or employees cancelling their Health Insurance due to cost. I want to expand Badger Care with no income limits and include small businesses with less than 100 employees to opt into a small business cooperative to reduce premium and deductible costs.
How should Wisconsin government operate differently than in the past?
First, I believe both parties have become us vs. them. I am a progressive and at one time both parties had strong progressive wings. Wisconsin needs to return to its progressiveness at a bi-partisan level, which then focuses on what is best for ALL the citizens of the state and not the corporations. This includes providing and funding health care, appropriate school and rural road funding, and our strong belief in being stewards of the land we want our grandchildren to inherit through our DNR, state park funding, and the Knowles-Nelson stewardship program.
What is your favorite fun Wisconsin history fact?
Wisconsin was the proud leader for many years in progressive leadership at both the state and national levels. It is this leadership in progressive politics, environmental responsibility, and education that was copied to create other states' DNRs. This is why I moved to Wisconsin and want to serve in the state government to bring back the progressivism of Wisconsin.
