The map displays 2025 energy burden estimates at the census tract level, calculated by dividing the average 2025 energy bill of a household in a given tract by the same tract’s median household income as recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau in the 2024 American Community Survey.

Utility territory boundaries are approximations. Tracts that overlap two utilities' territories are shaded based on data from the utility that serves a larger share of the tract’s land area. Municipal utilities or energy co-ops’ service territories are unshaded, as are tracts that mostly fall outside the territories of the major investor-owned utilities.
