State Sen. Jeff Smith, D-Brunswick, faces Republican Eau Claire County Supervisor Michele Magadance Skinner. Neither Smith nor Skinner faced a primary opponent. Smith was first elected to the Senate in 2018 and became assistant minority leader in 2023. The 31st District is a key race for control of the chamber. Smith won reelection in 2022 with a 1% margin, before new legislative maps were signed into law. Kamala Harris and U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin won in the new boundaries in 2024.
