Why should voters elect you?
I'm an experienced local leader running as an independent candidate because I want to represent our district, not a political party. I was first elected to local office in 2021, and in just five years I've become a strong voice for Fond du Lac area residents. I work hard, I get to know the issues that matter to people, and I fight to find the best solutions that are practical and affordable. I'm not afraid to challenge the status quo when we deserve something better, and I look for ways to collaborate with others to make change happen. Right now we need major changes at the state level, and I am ready to get to work to help move Wisconsin forward.
What is the top issue in your district? How would you address it?
Education funding and the property tax impact is the top issue in my district. Both the Fond du Lac and North Fond du Lac School Districts have seen two operational referendum attempts fail in recent years. Many voters have said they simply cannot afford to raise their own property taxes when the cost of living keeps rising. We need to support our public schools, while taking pressure off property taxpayers. Wisconsin needs to change the school funding formula so that school districts receive more state aid. We need to find a sustainable funding source, much like the legislature did in the recent change to the shared revenue formula, which tied state shared revenue to a percentage of the state sales tax.
How should Wisconsin government operate differently than in the past?
We need to be proactive, not reactive. When it comes to issues like education and child care, we're really at a tipping point. If we don't make some major systemic changes, we are going to see school districts go bankrupt and child care will only be accessible to the wealthiest families. We're letting huge AI data centers come in and secure themselves sweet deals, while residents worry about land and water use and rising energy costs. And all of this is happening while the cost of everything keeps going up. Wisconsin residents feel like no one is looking out for them. We need leaders in the legislature who will take control and make plans that lead to a better future for our state.
What is your favorite fun Wisconsin history fact?
Fond du Lac was almost the state capital! In 1836 when Wisconsin was a newly formed territory, Fond du Lac was in a tight race with Madison to be named the territory's capital, and Fond du Lac lost by only one vote.
