Q&A with the Candidate
Why should voters elect you?
Of the two candidates, I have the strongest understanding of the issues facing District 47 and our state. I'm the only one that has previously served as a local elected official in the district. I regularly crisscross the district to engage with urban, suburban, and rural stakeholders to understand their unique needs and bring perspective back to the State Capitol. In addition, my two years as an incumbent legislator gives me the tools and experience to effectively advocate for our district and state next session.
What is the top issue in your district? How would you address it?
The cost of living and affordability. Our municipalities and school districts continue to go to referendum to fund basic operating expenses as levy limits aren't keeping up with inflation. I'd like to see the legislature tackle our school funding formula and levy limits in the next session. In addition, I hope to push forward legislation to expand broadband access in the state (an area I have professional expertise), fund childcare providers, and address prescription drug costs.
How should Wisconsin government operate differently than in the past?
The Assembly (as well as the Senate) needs to be in session more frequently. The Assembly only met 24 times (with 2 additional special session days) last session. A large volume of bills never made it to the floor or out of committee, and the last regular session day was a marathon with dozens of bills up for debate at once. Instead of rushing legislation through on that final day, Wisconsinites expect their legislators to be working hard, debating, and passing legislation throughout the entire session to make our state better. I'd like to see more legislative progress and bill movement in the 2027-28 session, and I believe Wisconsinites on both sides of the aisle would say the same.
What is your favorite fun Wisconsin history fact?
Stoughton, Wisconsin (in my district) is where the coffee break was first created.
