Why should voters elect you?
Voters should elect me because I am accessible, responsive, and deeply rooted in District 9. As a Latina, small business owner, mother of four, and longtime South Side Milwaukee resident, I understand the challenges working families face because I hear them every day from neighbors, families, and small business owners. In the Assembly, I have fought to improve language access, expand healthcare, support small businesses, strengthen public schools, and make government work better for communities that have too often been overlooked. I founded the Wisconsin Hispanic Legislative Caucus to elevate Latino voices and ensure our growing community has a seat at the table. I am running to continue delivering results and making sure every resident is seen, heard, and represented.
What is the top issue in your district? How would you address it?
The top issue in District 9 is making government and opportunity accessible to working families. Too many residents face barriers because of rising costs, limited language access, healthcare challenges, and difficulty navigating public systems. As a small business owner and State representative, I hear directly from families who are working hard but still struggling to access the resources they need. I would address this by fighting for affordable healthcare, fully funded public schools, stronger language access, support for small businesses, good-paying jobs, and investments in safe, thriving neighborhoods. District 9 deserves a government that meets people where they are and makes sure every family has a fair opportunity to succeed.
How should Wisconsin government operate differently than in the past?
Wisconsin government should operate differently by bringing more diverse voices into leadership and decision-making. Our state has made meaningful progress over the past several decades, but we still have more work to do to ensure every community is seen, heard, and represented. That is why I helped found the Wisconsin Hispanic Legislative Caucus alongside three other Latino state representatives: to strengthen Latino representation and elevate the issues impacting our communities. I also introduced a resolution recognizing Eid in solidarity with Wisconsin’s Muslim community. When government reflects the people it serves, we make better decisions, build stronger trust, and create a more inclusive Wisconsin for everyone.
What is your favorite fun Wisconsin history fact?
One of my favorite fun Wisconsin history fact is that parts of Laverne and Shirley were filmed here and took place here in Milwaukee.
