Why should voters elect you to be attorney general?

I have a strong record of protecting public safety, defending our freedoms, and delivering real results. We need to continue to have an attorney general we can count on to take on tough fights and stand up for all Wisconsinites. Under my leadership, the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) has investigated and/or prosecuted serious criminal activity, including homicides, sexual assaults, internet crimes against children, and drug trafficking. My administration has also worked to make our schools safer, gotten accountability from those alleged to have violated laws that protect consumers and our natural resources, and joined more than 50 multistate cases against the current Trump administration. We should build on the progress we’ve been making, not go backwards.

Why should voters not elect your opponent?

We should be able to rely on our attorney general to stand up for the best interests of Wisconsinites. But Eric Toney won’t stand up to corporate special interests or the Trump administration like I have. He also won’t stand up for our freedoms like I have. In 2022, Toney attacked me for seeking to block a law dating back to the mid-1800s from being enforced as a sweeping criminal abortion ban, left open the possibility of bringing prosecutions for abortions in cases involving rape or incest and raised the possibility of “allowing for adjoining counties to be able to investigate and enforce that abortion ban in Wisconsin.” In addition, Toney supported Michael Gableman’s wasteful and absurd so-called investigation into the 2020 elections in Wisconsin.

What are your top accomplishments in your current office?

My administration has helped to fight the opioid epidemic, including by seeking accountability from opioid manufacturers, distributors, and others that allegedly contributed to the opioid epidemic and helping to secure the recovery of hundreds of millions of dollars.I successfully fought to get legislation passed that will help prevent a future backlog of untested sexual assault kits in Wisconsin, and my administration launched a statewide sexual assault kit tracking system.

My administration obtained a ruling last year from the Wisconsin Supreme Court that makes clear that abortions are not broadly banned in Wisconsin by a law dating back to the mid-1800s.

My administration has effectively stood up for democracy, including by successfully defending the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in Wisconsin in court.

What should be the top priorities of the Department of Justice?

My top priority as attorney general has been and will continue to be public safety. Wisconsin DOJ should continue working to reduce violent crime, fight the opioid epidemic, and make our schools safer. In another term as AG, I will continue advocating for additional resources that can help make communities safer and for common-sense gun-safety measures, such as expanding background checks for firearms transfers.

Wisconsin DOJ should also continue being a watchdog for Wisconsinites against special interests and others who harm consumers, taxpayers, or our natural resources.

Additionally, Wisconsin DOJ should continue standing up for Wisconsinites’ freedoms and against federal government actions that violate the law and harm Wisconsinites.
