Why should voters elect you?
As your representative and the Assembly Democratic leader, I’m working to build a state where our neighbors are not a medical emergency away from going broke, where our schools have the resources to support every child, and where everyone can comfortably raise a family and retire with dignity. This session, despite being in the minority party, I helped secure significant investments in cleaning up our drinking water and helped expand access to healthcare for new moms. I’m committed to building safer, stronger, and more welcoming communities. I will continue to fight to lower the costs of groceries, healthcare, childcare, and housing. I will make sure the millionaires and billionaires are paying their fair share. And I will always work to restore and protect your rights.
What is the top issue in your district? How would you address it?
The Legislature has failed to adequately fund our schools and support our kids, but we can do better. I have authored several bills to lower property taxes, stop the cycle of referendums, and support our kids. I believe that we can and must give students free and healthy meals and help families save on groceries. We can restore the state’s responsibility to our schools and lower property taxes. We can fund special education and keep our promises to our kids.
How should Wisconsin government operate differently than in the past?
Under the gerrymandered legislative maps, good ideas were ignored if they came from the wrong party. The people of Wisconsin deserve legislators who will work across party to get things done, and I look forward to a day when we hear bills from both sides and pass policy that will really improve the lives of the people of Wisconsin.
What is your favorite fun Wisconsin history fact?
Here in Racine, we are so proud to be the home of the Wisconsin state pastry, kringle! My family has been eating kringle in Racine for several generations, and we hope everyone enjoys our state pastry as much as we do.
