Why should voters send you to congress?

1) The first step to grab back power from a corrupt and dysfunctional Congress is to impose term limits on Congress.

2) It requires a constitutional amendment.

3) You say “That’s hopeless Douglas! — Congress will never propose it.”

4) I say “Silly Wabbit, that’s what I thought, but Constitution Article V states if two-thirds of state legislatures call for a constitutional amendment on an issue, it gets proposed, thus end-running Congress.”

5) Fifteen states have already called for a constitutional amendment imposing term limits on Congress; 14 are in various stages of consideration. We only need five more, and we’ll have done it. There IS hope!

If elected, I’ll testify at state legislatures as a sitting member of Congress why its important they support this constitutional amendment.

What is the top issue in your district? How would you address it?

My issues:

--$39 trillion debt.

--Providing undocumented immigrants a reasonable path to citizenship, so they are released from uncomfortable, quasi-slave working environments.

--Avoiding incoherent wars.

--Our dysfunctional health system brings obscene wealth to pharmaceutical and insurance companies and other power brokers quite happy JUST the way it is.

--Farm bill: rewards big ag and big chemical companies, and discourages regenerative farmers who recognize the failures of nutrition-bankrupt industrial farming.

--Pornography. No self-respecting society would put up with subjecting their youth to a firehose of moral sewage imprinting their minds with sexual violence, degredation, and domination. Love is patient and kind. It does not insist on its own way.

--However…my TOP issue is getting career politicians out of Congress, for otherwise, none of the above will be addressed.

What expertise would you bring into congress? How would it help your district?

I’ve enjoyed wide and varied experiences: growing up in Madison, exchange year in England, political science major, Bucknell University, Navy P-3 pilot, ninth grade civics teacher, software instructor, major account executive in technical sales, paperboy in my 50s. Inneagram 7; Meyer’s Briggs J-E-R-K. I would bring to Congress integrity, a sense of humor, a serious intent on reforming it via term limits, a remarkable ability to establish rapport with members having differing views. Of specific concern is reforming the farm bill. Otherwise, our district is similar to most: they want Congress to do its job, stay in its lane, and stop spending more than it has. They want Congress to tone down the acrimony, and put more effort into solving issues than ensuring they get re-elected.

Should Congress exert more oversight over the president? Why or why not?

Heck yes.

What is your favorite fun Wisconsin history fact?

I absolutely love living in Wisconsin. I lived along the Eastern US for more than 25 years. Returning to Wisconsin was one of the best decisions of my life. This “fun fact” probably isn’t what the intelligent, good-looking folks at Wisconsin Watch had in mind, but in 2021 Wisconsin became one of the 15 states to call for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on Congress. (I testified in favor.) My website will soon show at what stages the 50 states are towards passing the resolution. Then all of you can call/text/email family and friends in that state, asking them to contact their state legislators to support it. This is how we together can assert our rights, grabbing back power from a corrupt and dysfunctional Congress!
