Why should voters elect you?
I have the experience and proven record to effectively serve the people of the 45th Assembly District. In my two terms, I have built strong relationships across the aisle and delivered results, including expanding postpartum Medicaid coverage, passing Gail’s Law to improve breast cancer screening access, and passed legislation to increase transparency around AI-generated content in campaign ads. Before serving in the Assembly, I spent six years on the Beloit City Council and worked directly with survivors of domestic violence and children facing behavioral and mental health challenges. This combination of legislative experience, local service, and community advocacy helps me understand the challenges facing Wisconsin families and deliver meaningful results.
What is the top issue in your district? How would you address it?
The top concern I hear from residents is affordability. Many families saw significant increases in their property tax bills, and we need to reduce the reliance that local governments and school districts place on property taxes alone. We can also lower costs by investing in rural infrastructure, including road projects that allow farmers and producers to transport goods more efficiently instead of taking longer routes because of weight restrictions. Additionally, I support expanding low- and no-interest revolving loan programs for housing, local infrastructure, and agricultural improvements. By reducing borrowing costs and making strategic investments, we can help lower the financial burden on families, businesses, and communities across the district.
How should Wisconsin government operate differently than in the past?
Wisconsin government should operate with greater transparency, accountability, and commitment to working together. Currently, the Legislature is the only branch of Wisconsin government that can legally delete its own records. I authored legislation requiring the Legislature retain records because the public deserves to know how decisions are made and what their elected officials are doing. The Legislature should be a place where good ideas are considered regardless of which party introduces them. Too often, politics has become more about division than results — bills are dismissed on who authored them rather than their merits. When Democrats are in the majority, I believe we must lead differently by ensuring all legislators have the opportunity to be heard and that good ideas receive a fair debate and vote.
What is your favorite fun Wisconsin history fact?
One of my favorite Wisconsin history facts is that the Green Bay Packers’ first competitive season was in 1919. They went 10-1, outscoring their opponents 565-12, and their only loss that season came right here in Beloit, when the Beloit Fairies defeated the Packers 6-0 on Nov. 23, 1919. It is a fun fact I love to share every football season.
